Greetings everyone. I just want to put a few things out there for next weekend (October 8th) in case there is anything I forgot to mention. As you may or may not be aware, we are releasing bottles of two beers that were rescued from the flood. As I mentioned in my last blog, this is a one-of-a-kind collaboration that will hopefully never be repeated again.
Heretic- an American double IPA brewed to 9.9% abv and 99 IBU’s. This beer is traditionally released on September 9th , but due to the flood, that was slightly delayed. The good news is that it tastes absolutely delicious. I dry-hopped it with Columbus this year. A bit stronger and a bit more balanced than Heady Topper, very smooth and drinkable.
Luscious- a British-inspired Imperial Stout. I designed/brewed this beer back in March with the intention of releasing it on November 11th,2011. Luckily, this was the other beer I was able to save. A portion of this was aged in French oak for the summer, and blended back into the stainless only days before the flood. I can tell you that it certainly lives up to its name. A delightfully creamy body is held up perfectly by a plethora of chocolate/roasty goodness; and the 11.1%abv is hidden in a deep dark hole. If any 11.1% stout can be considered sessionable, this one certainly is.
Q. Where can I buy these special beers?
A. At The Alchemist Pub and Brewery, 23 South Main Street. I want everyone to witness the current condition of our dearly departed business. It will be shocking for sure, but when you return to see it in its reborn state in early 2012, you will have a deep appreciation for the ground we will have covered.
Q. When will you open?
A. We will begin letting you in at 11am. The bottle sale will go until the beer is gone or until 5pm, whichever comes first.
Q. How much beer will you have to sell?
A. There are over 700 bottles of each beer. There is NO LIMIT on purchase quantities.
Q. How much will the beers cost?
A. The Heretic will be $15 a bottle. The Luscious will be $20 a bottle.
ALL SALES WILL BE CASH ONLY!!
We have no phone lines, thus no credit card machines (and cash only also means no checks). There are several ATM’s within walking distance. Remember, this is a fundraiser we are putting on for ourselves to raise funds for our rebuild.
We will also sell commemorative “Hell or High Water” t-shirts. ALL t-shirt profits will go to The Waterbury Good Neighbor Fund. Please plan on buying a shirt to go with your beers, our neighbors got wiped out just as we did.
Q. Will the bar be open? Can we drink beer in the bar?
A. Absolutely not. The bar is gone, and our liquor license does not allow for on-site consumption without a kitchen and bathrooms.
Q. What if I wait in line and the beer sells out before I get in?
A. I sincerely doubt that will happen, with 700+ bottles of each available. If it were to happen, that would mean that our little fund raiser was an unbelievable success….which would be a great thing.
Q. Will you have packaging for the beer?
A. Limited. We recommend you bring an appropriate light proof bag of sorts. If you buy 12 bottles, you can take it in the case. It is bottle conditioned and will be sold warm, so a cooler is not necessary.
I hope this answers any questions you may have.
We are hoping that everyone stays around town for lunch and to spend some time at The Harvest Festival that Jen has been so busy arranging. There will be food, music, artists; and I have even heard that I am scheduled to be getting in a dunk tank…should be interesting to say the least.
See you on Saturday, October 8th at 11 am!!!!!
Oh yeah, I almost forgot to tell you this. I will be flying to San Diego in November to brew a collaborative Black IPA with Stone Brewing and Ninkasi Brewing. Stay tuned for more details on that as they become available. We are all very excited about this opportunity.
